Cheung Hoi Fai and Sun Yi, both from the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, won 1st prize in the fifth annual Henkel Innovation Challenge (HIC) with their innovative idea for the year 2030. Their Loctite Watts product makes it possible to convert heat waste energy into useful power when applied between the components of a special electronic device. The Chinese student duo beat out nineteen other teams from around the world in the HIC International Finals which took place last week in Warsaw, Poland.

Cheung Hoi Fai and Sun Yi, both from the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, won 1st prize in the fifth annual "Henkel Innovation Challenge".

The fifth annual Henkel Innovation Challenge is an international ideas competition for students in which the best student teams from twenty-three countries in Europe, Asia-Pacific and, for the first time, United States and Mexico, presented their creative ideas at their respective national finals back at the beginning of 2012. Each national winner was then invited to Warsaw in order to once again present their product ideas for 2030 at the International Finals and work on a fictional product launch.

“For two long days student teams from twenty countries presented their future concepts, answered any final questions from their Henkel mentors and some teams worked on their presentations until late into the evening,” says Franca Cristofoletto, Employer Branding Manager and responsible for the competition. “The event was really worthwhile: we were impressed by the creativity, the professionalism and the team spirit of all the students.”

For winning the contest, Cheung Hoi Fai and Sun Yi will receive an “around the world” ticket and travel vouchers worth 1,000 euros; the 2nd winning team from Croatia, with their Persil Foils stain remover as well as the 3rd winning team from France with their dust-catching Cleansphere by Rubson, both won a travel voucher. In addition, Henkel will invite the three winning teams to its headquarters in Düsseldorf where they will have a personal meeting with Henkel CEO, Kasper Rorsted.
