Iranische Menschenrechtlerin Mohammadi erhält Friedensnobelpreis

Oslo (dts Nachrichtenagentur) – Der Friedensnobelpreis geht in diesem Jahr an Narges Mohammadi. Das teilte das norwegische Nobelkomitee am Freitag in Oslo mit.

Mohammadi wurde vor allem für „ihren Kampf gegen die Unterdrückung von Frauen im Iran“ ausgewählt. Zudem hob das Komitee ihren Einsatz für „Menschenrechte für alle“ hervor. Die Preisträgerin stehe auch stellvertretend für alle, die in den vergangenen Monaten gegen das Regime im Iran demonstrierten, hieß es weiter. Mohammadi befindet sich aktuell in Haft.

Die Menschenrechtlerin begann nach ihrem Physik-Studium als Journalistin zu arbeiten. Im Rahmen dessen setzt sie sich unter anderem für Frauenrechte ein. Aufgrund ihrer Tätigkeit wurde sie wiederholt zu Haftstrafen sowie Peitschenhieben verurteilt. Aus dem Gefängnis berichtet sie regelmäßig über die Haftbedingungen im Iran, zuletzt über die Frauen, die bei Protesten nach dem Tod von Mahsa Amini inhaftiert wurden.

Der Preis ist mit elf Millionen schwedischen Kronen, umgerechnet etwa 945.000 Euro, dotiert. Der Nobelpreis gilt als die höchste Auszeichnung in den berücksichtigten Disziplinen und wird jedes Jahr an Alfred Nobels Todestag, dem 10. Dezember, verliehen. Der Friedensnobelpreis wird in Oslo übergeben, alle anderen Preise in Stockholm.
